Seven new TV stations to be set up: Rashid

ISLAMABAD- Federal Minister for Information and Media Development Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has said the government is considering to grant permission to some seven new TV channels.

“We shall grant permission to both television and radio channels to air current affairs programmes,” the minister said while talking to BBC. He said as far field radio is concerned the government is taking several actions simultaneously.

Rashid said the government has issued licences for launching private radio stations, but the licence-holders have set up stations as yet. He asked the licence-holders to launch their projects immediately.

He said the new radio stations will broadcast news and current affairs programmes. The minister said if there is any obstacle in running the new channels the government is prepared to remove them.
