SAMW Online office raided

KARACHI: The vigilance team of FWL and Telecommunication Authority (FTA) on Tuesday raided the office of an internet service provider, SAMW Online, and seized latest equipment allegedly used for voice mail facility for by­passing the PTCL gateway exchange, thus causing huge loss to the national exchequer. The PTCL and PTA found that during last 10 days the company had received 150,000 calls from outside Pakistan resulting in loss of about Rs 10 million. The PTCL and PTA teams raided office of the ISP, and found that the company was using PRI line of 120K bandwidth after hav­ing placed an A53000 voice card in their server. The teams seized all equipment allegedly used for the facility of voice mail. However, no arrest was made as the two directors of the company escaped. A FITCL spokesman told The News that SAMW Online made a joint venture with another ISP, WENNET, also a licence holder of the PTA, but did not have the licence for voice for over the Internet.
