KARACHI: Paknet, an Internet Service Provider (ISP) and subsidiary of PTCL, has launched another innovative product and new service in the field of networking called ‘High-speed Broadband Wireless Internet’.

The service has been made available from Tuesday as the company has initially introduced the technology in Karachi, Rawalpindi, Islamabad and Lahore. Wireless Internet Service is also cost effective and expected to become even more economical with the passage of time, the company claimed.

‘As no telephone line will be required for use of this technology, it gives mobility to users to access the broadband Internet from anywhere in their premises without being confined to their desks,” an official handout said.

Previously the broadband access in Pakistan was mostly used through wireless radius and digital cross connect, but this solution of wireless Internet virtually extends the user Local Area Network through Internet protocol-based solutions to the international backbone of Internet.

“This technology has a number of advantages over existing technologies and the first and foremost is the higher speed it offers to the users,” the handout said. Wireless Internet Service will have speeds ranging from 64K to I0MB, requiring no telephone line, and therefore, preventing disconnection and busy tones. All the functions like wireless printing will also be possible with this technology, the company claimed.

“It will be used for audio-video conferencing and video-audio streaming directly from the net, Bulk data transfer for companies involved in re. Search, medical transcription, multi-player games and secured connections will be available for institutes and universities.”
