ISLAMABAD: The huge corruption of one billion rupees has been unearthed in the projects of E-government of the Ministry of Information Technology.

Earlier, the incidence of heavy corruption had been revealed in Rental Power Projects, Pak Steels, NICL and other national projects.

The corruption of one billion rupees has been confirmed in the self-prepared documents of IT & Telecom Ministry. According to these documents, the IT officials admitted that payments had been made to the six to seven IT companies before the start of 18 different projects, which was against the rules and regulations.

It was made clear in the report, submitted to Standing Committee of National Assembly for IT that E-government projects were started in 2005 and payment had been made to six companies in this regard while two companies disappeared after receiving money. The officials suspected that these companies were now running business with other names.

Federal Secretary Mr Tariq has admitted that it should not be done but he also confessed that no inquiry had been conducted as far as the incomplete projects were concerned for the last seven years.

While talking to the Geo News, member National Assembly Anusha Rehman said that a very sensitive project of the country in which the important documents of PM House and several official institutions were to be uploaded online was given to unpopular companies without carrying out regular scrutiny. Anusha Rehman said no deal was made in case of leaving incomplete work and demanded a probe into this issue through the NAB.

The official documents showed that 80 percent allocated funds had been spent in purchase of computers and no software had been bought in this regard.

The IT officials said after the ministry’s failure, contacts were being made with these companies for the completion of this project. The NA body has formed a four-member committee under the chairmanship of member National Assembly Barjis Tahir to investigate the issue.
