ISLAMABAD: The police on Sunday arrested two persons for opening gunfire on a TV anchor and produced before Judicial Magistrate Jawad Hussain Adil, who sent them on a 14-day judicial remand.

However, the Margalla Police Station House Officer Inspector Asjad Mehmood told The Express Tribune that the suspects were later released on bail after they agreed to an out-of-court settlement with the complainant.

Shahzad Ihsan, who works for the state-run PTV World, lodged a complaint with the Margalla police that two persons riding a white land cruiser (DF-7867) intercepted his vehicle at Jinnah Avenue and opened fire at his vehicle and fled the scene.

The complainant said that a bullet hit his vehicle. Within hours of the complaint, the police arrested the suspects identified as Zahid Javed Khan, a resident of F-11/3, and Chaudhry Rehmat Ali, a resident of G-10/4.

Police also recovered a Kalashnikov and a pistol from their possession and impounded their vehicle.

When asked about the motive behind the attack, the SHO said road rage caused the incident.
