Rally taken out for arrest of journalist’s killers

KANDHKOT- A rally was taken out for the arrest of the killers of journalist, Shahid Soomro from Kandhkot Press Club which later took the shape of a gathering on reaching Jeay Sindh Chowk with the participants later blocking the Indus Highway on October 22, 2002.

Shahid Soomro was shot dead by assailants outside his house. The nephew of Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani, Waheed Ali and Muhammad Ali alongwith their three bodyguards are being suspected. Muhammad Ali has been arrested while the rest have fled.

The participants strongly demanded the government to arrest the killers of Shahid in 24 hours or the extent of rallies and demonstrations would be extended to the whole province.

The rally largely attended by workers of Mazdoor Shehri Ittehad, Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM), Graduates Association and journalists, dispersed peacefully after being assured by District Superintendent Police (DSP) Kandhkot, Niaz Ahmed that the killers would soon be brought to justice.
