Murder of journalist condemned

KARACHI- Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Coordination Committee has flayed the killing of Shahid Soomro, a working journalist and General Secretary Shikarpur National Press Club in a statement on October 22, 2002.

The Coordination Committee demanded of the Sindh Governor to take strict action against the involved persons and expressed sympathy with the member of the bereaved family.

They expressed astonishment over the reports that despite registration of First Information Report (FIR) against the culprits no one has been nabbed by the administration. They said that no one was above the law as there were reports that the alleged killers were the kin and relatives of a newly elect member of the assembly and a powerful Sardar.

The journalists community of Shikarpur district also condemned the murder of a journalist Shahid Soomro by the relatives of newly elect assembly member and demanded immediate arrest of the involved persons.

Though a resolution passed by a meeting on October 22, 2002 at the local Press Club they demanded of the Sindh government to provide protection to the journalists so that they discharge their journalistic obligations without fear.

The meeting offered fateha and expressed sympathy with the bereaved family. The sons and relatives of Bijarani Sardar Kandhkot shot dead Shahid Soomro in front of his house on October 20, 2002.
