Rain disrupts FM station’s broadcast

KARACHI, June 23: A local FM radio station was knocked off the air on Saturday, falling victim to the season’s first proper monsoon shower.

The Karachi transmission of City FM89, which has its offices located on one of the top floors of a Sharea Faisal high-rise, went offline following the showers that started late in the afternoon.

A station representative confirmed that FM89’s local broadcast was experiencing “technical difficulties” as the station’s transmission tower had been affected by the inclement weather.

However, she observed that only the local transmission had been disturbed and that the station was operating fine in other cities. The Karachi transmission was expected to be back online by “later tonight” (Saturday night) she added. The remaining eight FM stations in the city were broadcasting as normal.
