Promotion of local IT industry main focus of government: minister

LAHORE (June 26 2007): Promotion of local I.T. Industry is main focus of the present government and keeping in view the Vision-2020 of the Chief Minister, Rs 1250 million are being allocated in the fiscal year 2007-08 for Information Technology Department.

Punjab Minister for Information Technology Abdul Aleem Khan stated this at a briefing session on computerisation of different departments, here on Monday. In order to give a boost to the I.T. sector, private entrepreneurs would be involved with due share to make computer technology more competitive and affordable.

He said that with the co-operation of World Bank, more 18 districts of Punjab would be included and Land Computerisation Project would be started there. He said that pilot projects in three districts, Gujrat, R.Y. Khan and Kasur would be completed.

He said that Motor Transport Management Information System, at a cost of Rs 300 million would be comprised of computerised token system, issuance of route permit, challan permits and issuance of driving licenses.

He said that heavy funds have been allocated for the computerisation of government departments and different projects are being initiated for introducing Information Technology systems in Small Industries Corp, Labour, Health and Auqaf Departments. Similarly, different projects including Punjab Automation is being started for the capacity building of public sector.
