Notices issued to home secretary, IG in harassment case

KARACHI (June 26 2007): Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday issued notice to Sindh Home Secretary, IG Sindh Police, SHO PS Saudabad and others for July 2 on petition filed against harassing a newly married girl and quashment of FIR lodged against her husband.

Ms Rozina, 18, resident of Mehar, Dadu submitted before SHC’s division comprising Justice Muhammad Ather Saeed and Justice Qaiser Iqbal that she got married with Abdul Quayum to whom she loves on her own free will and wed on May 24, 2007.

Her father Allah Rakha, who wanted to get her marriage with an old man in village made it matter of ego and forced her to leave her husband otherwise they would be killed in the pretext of Karo-kari.

She stated that on her refusal, Allah Rakha lodged FIR against Abdul Quayum in PS Saudabad Karachi for abducting her and started harassing his family members through police, threatening them for dire consequences.

Naming Sindh government through Home Secretary, IG Sindh Police, SHO PS Saudabad, Investigation Officer Fida Hussain Baloch and Allah Rakha, she prayed to direct concerned police officers and her father not to harass and interfere in their life.

She also prayed to restrain them from threatening them for dire consequences. It was also prayed to direct officials concerned to quash FIR lodged against her husband, as neither he abducted her nor committed any act against law. The SHC’s division bench after preliminary hearing issued notice and adjourned the matter for July 2, 2007.
