Production of man ordered in blasphemy case

KARACHI, June 17 2006: A session’s court of Karachi South ordered the police June 16 to produce on June 26 a man, who was recently acquitted in a blasphemy case. The acquittal of Munawar Ahmed was challenged by Almi Majlis-e-Tahafuz Khatme-Nubawat (SAW). Munawar was accused of sending cell phone text messages containing blasphemous .material to complainant Khursheed Ahmed and a case was registered against him and co-accused Qamar David under sections 295-A, 295-C and 298-A of the Pakistan Penal Code at Saddar police station.

Challenging the acquittal of the accused, the1!ppellant’s counsel Manzoor Ahmed Meo Rajput contended that Munawar and Qamar David in connivance with each other sent blasphemous messages to the complainant. He submitted that the police malafidely exonerated Munawar of the charges although sufficient evidence was available against him and four prosecution witnesses have recorded statements against the accused. After hearing the preliminary hearing of the application, Sessions Judge Farzana Iqbal directed the investigation officer to produce the respondent before the court on June 26 along with all records of the case.
