PPP places ‘self media ban’

LAHORE: PPP Punjab acting president Samiullah Khan says the party has imposed a ban on itself instead of taking action against a media group for running a malicious campaign against it.

Briefing the journalists after the party’s provincial executive council meeting here on Wednesday, Sami said the media group in collaboration with anti-democratic forces had intensified the targeted campaign against the president, the prime minister and the parliament.

Flanked by deputy secretary-general Usman Malik, Sami said the PPP would also not seek coverage of its activities from the media group. He said the group had crossed all limits of decency and journalistic norms.

Sami also urged the media organisations to take note of pending cases of tax evasion by the media group. He said the party workers were getting emotional owing to “biased reporting” of the group but they had been asked to remain calm.

He was also critical of the judiciary for its “selective” accountability. He said the PML-N had become unnerved after the entry of Pervez Musharraf in politics.
