Pemra urges TV channels to be careful
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) on Friday urged satellite TV channels to exhibit maturity and utmost caution while debating or propagating any issue related to national interest, security, sovereignty and integrity of the country.
“Pemra has always emphasised on ‘self-regulation’ policy and all the electronic media has been given enormous freedom of speech and information but this all should be coupled with responsibility like the media in other developed world,” said a press release issued here.
In the given circumstances, when country is passing through a critical phase, Pakistani media, particularly satellite TV channels, are expected to act in a manner to safeguard the national interest while upholding integrity and repute of its institution and people, it said.
