PEMRA takes action against cable operators

Islamabad: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) in a recent enforcement bid against violating cable TV operators in Faisalabad and vicinities took action against cable TV operators who despite repeated warnings were involved in relaying proscribed, banned content and excessive CD channels, says a press release.

PEMRA Enforcement team headed by AGM Waqar and Inspector Rao Amir Hafeez seized the all equipments of Friends Cable Network at Samandari Faisalabad which were being used in illegal transmission in violation of PEMRA Laws. The Cable network has been completely shut down.

There were also large number of public complaints against cable operators against airing programmers, channels in contravention to the socio-cultural norms and most of the CD channels run by them were illegal. Some cable operators who faced action were airing illegal advisements of fake and spurious drugs, quaks and hazardous ointments which were prohibited by the ministry of health and PEMRA.
