Pemra directs channels to stop showing indecent ads of Hakeems

ISLAMABAD: The Council of Complaints Lahore in its 61st meeting held under the chair of Dr Mehdi Hassan directed to stop indecent and offensive advertisements of Hakeems and Black Magic etc being shown on cable TV networks.

The directives were issued while hearing a complaint of Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed referred to Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) by the Lahore High Court, Lahore regarding indecent advertisements on cable networks which are not onlyoffensive to the Code of Conduct but also appears to be in violation of Indecent Advertisement Prohibition Act 1963.

The council also recommended issuing advice to City-42 Channel in the matter of complaint lodged by Ms. Nabeela Ghazanfar (Director, Public Relation) for Inspector General of Police regarding telecast of false, baseless and defamatory news tarnishing the image of Punjab Police.

The matter of M/s Golden Star Cable Network, Kasur was adjourned with the direction to conduct ground verification. Whereas, M/s Mub Global (Pvt) Ltd and Punjab TV were directed to clear all outstanding dues till June 24, 2016.

Other council members including Ms. Fauzia Viqar, Dr. Sughara Sadaf, Dr. Mubashar Nadeem, Dr. Lubna Zaheer, Iftikhar Ahmad Tarar, Dr. M. Safdar Rehman (RGM/ Secretary CoCs) were also present in the meeting.
