Pakistani media team on China visit

By: Ahmad Jamal Nizami

BEIJING — An official delegation of journalists from Pakistan comprising ten media men, also including two women, has reached Beijing, the Capital of People’s Republic of China. The tour has been organised by the China Radio International in collaboration with the ministry of information, Pakistan.

The Pakistani media men were welcomed enthusiastically by the Chinese people and the media men at the Beijing international airport. China, the most rapid growing economy of the world, has witnessed a great change over the period of few decades. All the roads in Beijing, a city of 20 million population, are covered with green trees on both the sides. Huge trade centers and plazas are seen everywhere and there is no concept of loadshedding.

However, the tradition of using bicycles by the elites has dwindled to great extent as the Chinese youths were seen driving luxury cars on the city roads. Many people including women still ride bicycles but they are quite few in number. The economic condition of the Chinese is much better as compared to several developed countries as minimum wage in China is Rs 13, 000 and petrol per liter is Rs 108. The trend of consuming CNG for motor vehicles is also very low in the city.

Danyal Gillani, press and culture attaché at the embassy of Pakistan, also cooperated with the Pakistani delegation and informed them about the tour schedule. He paid rich tributes to Editor-in-Chief Nawa-i-Waqt Majid Nizami for publishing and promoting Pak-China friendship. During his chat with the delegation, he told that he also worked with the Nawa-i-Waqt group as he started his professional life.

Later a diner was hosted in the honour of Pakistan media delegation by MS Wang Dongmei, vice president of the China Radio International. Meanwhile, the Chinese journalists thanked the Pakistani journalists for visiting China at a time when both the countries were celebrating friendship year. They also related the memories of their last year’s visit to Pakistan.

Majority of people in China discussed the Pak-China friendship that dates back to May 21, 1951 when Pakistan had first recognised China as an independent state.

The 60 years of Pak-China relationships have shown the resolve between the two countries to cement their ties stronger with every passing day. The hallmark visit of President Ayub Khan to China in December 1964 opened a new era of friendship and long term partnership between the two countries.

Today China is the major trade partner and contributor of defense equipment to Pakistan. The recent joint venture of JF-17 Thunder multi-role jet aircraft has further cemented the ties between the two countries. The State Bank of Pakistan has issued an Rs 20 commemorative coin with effect from May 21, 2011, to celebrate 2011 as the Pakistan-China friendship year. The relationships between both the countries have been described by Hu Jintao as “higher than the mountains and deeper than oceans”. China supports Pakistan’s stance on Kashmir while Pakistan supports China on the issues of Xinjiang, Tibet, and Taiwan.

The Chinese and the Pakistani journalists jointly hope that the exchange of media delegations will result into strengthening strong relationships and economic growth rapidly.
