Pakistan, UK Discuss Fake News, Media Cooperation

Pakistan Press Foundation

On March 28, Pakistan’s Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, and the British High Commission’s Political Counsellor, Zoe Ware, deliberated on the pressing global issue of fake news and misinformation. Tarar called for the establishment of a robust code of conduct for social media and content creators to curb the spread of false information.

In the meeting, Tarar and Ware discussed the issue of fake news and disinformation and explored areas of cooperation between Pakistan and the UK in the media, film, and drama sectors.

They acknowledged the negative influence of social media on public discourse and agreed on the need for a code of conduct for social media content creators.

Addressing the recent restrictions on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Tarar confirmed that efforts are underway to resolve the issue.

Ware extended congratulations to PML-N on forming the new government and to Tarar on his appointment as Minister of Information and Broadcasting. Ware assured Tarar of the United Kingdom’s full cooperation in promoting strong bilateral relations between Pakistan and the UK.
