ISLAMABAD- Government will focus more on IT services like call centres, medical and legal transcription services and outsourcing of offshore operations.

This was stated by Federal Minister for Science and Technology Prof. Ata-ur-Rehman while presiding over IT Advisory Board meeting.

The minister said this decision has been made after reviewing the international market trends and local manpower situation.

He said: “The government is determined to accelerate growth in IT and telecom sector and all efforts will be made to remove bottlenecks, if any, in the process.”

During the meeting intensive discussions were held about the requirements at the national and international level for growth in IT and telecom sector. The participants made different kinds of recommendations.

The minister set up small committees to identify measures required for further growth in the sector. A sub-committee was also set up to look into complaints of bandwidth reliability and rates. The committees have been given a two-week deadline to submit the report.

Prof. Ata showing a very serious concern over some Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) affairs, said that” core competence within PTCL is lacking”. He instructed PTCL to create a think tank of top class telecom experts who can give the required advice to PTCL to create necessary changes according to the present international scenario and expected future scene.
