Pakistan Press Foundation condemns attack on Ontario based journalist working for The Pakistan Post

Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF), an independent non-governmental institution committed to promoting and defending freedom of expression has condemned the attack on Ontario based journalist, Jawaad Faizi, who was beaten and threatened in what may be a revenge attack for publishing articles critical of a Pakistan-based religious group.

In letters addressed to Canadian Prime Minister Rt Hon Stephan Joseph Harper, the Premier of Ontario Mr. Datton Mc Guinty, the Canadian High Commissioner in Pakistan Mr.David B Collins, the Secretary General urged effective steps to ensure protection of Jawaad Faiz and his family as well as of other persons working for The Pakistan Post.

On April 17 Ontario, Canada two men, one with a cricket bat, smashed the car windows and assaulted Jawaad Faizi, a journalist working for the Mississauga-based weekly publication, The Pakistan Post.

Before fleeing, the assailants threatened him and warned that he should stop writing against Islam, and against the Pakistan-based religious organisation, Idara Minhaj-ul-Quran, and its leader, Allama Tahir-Ul-Qadri.
