Newspaper employee shot dead

KARACHI: A newspaper employee was gunned down in Federal. B Area on Thursday, police said.

The police said that 35-year-old Imran Ashfaq was talking to his friends outside a utility store in Block 16 of Federal B Area when he was targeted by armed motorcyclists.

“While he was talking to his friends outside a utility store two men riding a motorbike pulled up and asked about his identity,” said an official at the Jauharabad police station. “As he turned towards them, one of the motorcyclists got off the bike, pulled out a pistol and fired a single shot targeting his head. The victim died on the spot.”

The body was later shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Father of a two-year-old daughter, the victim had been associated with an Urdu-language daily for the last seven years.

“The family said he was not associated with any political party and showed ignorance if anyone had enmity with him,” said the official at the Jauharabad police station.

“But it seems a deliberate murder executed on account of enmity. An FIR of the murder will be registered following the autopsy,” the police said.
