Newsmen to hold demo against customs staff

PESHAWAR- The Khyber Union of Journalists (KhUJ) and All Pakistan Newspapers Employees Confederation (Apnec) will stage a demonstration outside the Customs House to denounce the manhandling of photographers and newsmen by a customs squad.

This was decided by the KhUJ and Apnec at a joint meeting here at the Peshawar Press Club.

They also resolved that the protest would continue till the acceptance of their demands, including a disciplinary action against the customs staff involved in the manhandling, removal of the customs picket set-up near the press club and recovery of the newsmen cameras.

The journalists also urged the political, social and human rights organisations to take notice of this vandalism.

The meeting unanimously decided that if the government did not take necessary action against those responsible for the ugly event, the newsmen would continue their protest.
