NDMA plans to issue flood warnings through FM radio

ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has asked district administrations to announce flood warnings at local levels including through mosques, FM radios aiming to ensure evacuation of the flood victims.

NDMA spokesman Ahmed Kemal told APP that a 15-day contingency plan has been laid out to cope with any situation that may arise during the current monsoon rains. He said this has been done because the monsoon rains frequently cause floods in many parts of the country.

The contingency plan would help meet any emergency and ward off the possibility of loss of human lives during the floods. “This year a bottom-up approach has been adopted in preparation for the monsoon contingency plan,” he said, adding, “as inputs from provinces as well as districts were being arranged persistently.”

The Federal Flood Commission and director generals of Provincial Disaster Management Authorities, Pakistan Meteorological Department and Irrigation Department have been made alert to avoid or at least minimize losses up to possible level. He said adequate quantities of food and non-food items have been made available in the stock.
