More TV channels on the cards: Rashid
ISLAMABAD – Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on April 21 said more TV channels were being allowed to provide better entertainment facilities to the people.
This is the era of competition and everybody has the right to compete and excel, he told Geo TV. Two or three new channels are coming soon, he said. Cross-media licences were being allowed in the first week of May, he said.
Rashid said the government has decided in principle to allow cross-media licences to owners of newspapers and periodicals.
Necessary amendments in the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Ordinance will be tabled in the shape of a bill in the coming session of parliament, he said. He asked the media to play a constructive role and spread the message of humanity and peace. The government does not intend to control the media, he said.
