Mehdi Hassan’s son calls for donations

LAHORE: Sajjad Mehdi, son of King of Ghazal Mehdi Hassan, has appealed for donations from the government and institutions voluntarily giving money for his father’s medical treatment. He said that the money could be directly deposited or transferred to the Aga Khan Hospital’s bank account, adding his father was under a debt of Rs 5.2 million, the amount spent on his treatment at the hospital.

Talking to Daily Times, he said his father’s condition was improving and he was now able to recognise people around him, however, his treatment would continue as per the doctor’s advise. The doctors were of the view that Mehdi Hassan’s chronic ailment was a result of old age and said his condition might alleviate with the passage of time.

“Every one has to die one day and I do not want my father dying with the burden of Rs 5.2 million debt on him,” Sajjad said.

He also thanked the Punjab government, federal government and all the private institutions for their concern about his father. Sajjad especially thanked Sindh Governor Ishratul Ebad for naming a park as ‘Mehdi Hassan Park’, on behalf of President Asif Ali Zardari.
