Lawyers to observe Shuhada Day

THE Lawyers Coordinating Committee has announced to observe Thursday as “Shuhada-e-Karachi Day” and that it would fully activate and participate in the Thursday’s weekly rally.

In a meeting held on Tuesday at Punjab Bar Council, the members of the committee demanded an independent inquiry into the Karachi calamity by ‘deposed’ judges and that the culprits must be hanged in open.

MQM must be declared as a terrorist organisation and the Untied Kingdom should deport Altaf Hussain from England, the meeting further demanded.

The meeting was presided over by Dr Mumtaz Salik, President Academic Association of Punjab University and Province of Punjab in which prominent lawyers, doctors, engineers, teachers, professors, traders, students, civil society members, labour unions, political cadres were present.

The other participants were Ziaullah Khan Manj, Raja Zulquarnain, Ziaul Haq Bhatti, Mohammad Azhar Siddique, advocate Media Advisor/Coordinator Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan and Chairman Judicial Activism Panel, Khawaja Tariq Sohail, Rana Farman Ali Sabir members executive SCBAP, Ghulam Nabi Bhatti, Vice President SCBAP, Dr Zahid Mohaiyuddin and Dr. Ghulam Sarwar of Pakistan Medical Association, Ammer Hamza of Jamaatud Dawat, Mohammad Azam Butt of Teachers Association, Farooq Tariq of Labour Party, Hameed-ud-Masherqui of Tehrik-e-Khaksar, Azhar Iqbal of Jamaat-e-Islami Punjab, Ahmad Ali Butt of Tehrik Insaf, Asad Ali of Islami Jamiat Talba and Saeeda Deep of Student Action Committee.

The meeting observed that all the judges must be restored immediately including Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry because delay in the restoration was against public interest.

An appeal was also made to general public that they should participate in Thursday rally in favour of Shuhada-e-Karachi and show solidarity for restoration of judiciary. The meeting set up a committee to resolve the matters related to the journalists in any segment.
