LAHORE: Two US human rights activists who had sought the release of prominent lawyer Aitzaz Ahsan were arrested late on Tuesday, and are likely to be deported today (Wednesday).
Tighe Barry told Daily Times that he and Medea Benjamin were picked up by the police near the Holiday Inn hotel. Khurram Latif Khosa told Daily Times that the US nationals were traveling in his car when they were stopped by the police on Edgerton Road and taken to the Race Course police station. Barry said that a US official arrived at the police station. They were given the choice to stay and face sedition charges or be deported, he said. They were then forced away and are since being kept in a house at an undisclosed location and are likely to be deported today (Wednesday), Barry added.
Officials at the Race Course police station refused to comment.
