LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Saturday condemned PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif’s “undemocratic” behavior with the correspondent of Business Plus TV, saying “these people do not retire from talking of freedom of the press, but their political height is only due to the electronic and print media”.

“Nawaz’s misbehavior with the journalist shows his commitment to freedom of the press and this event has unveiled his true face,” Shujaat said in a statement.

He expressed solidarity with Rana Mubashir, a correspondent for Business Plus, and called upon the journalist community to take notice of this condemnable behavior of the Sharifs “who want journalists to make news according to their [Sharifs’] will”.

He said the media had every right to ask questions from leaders about their character and situation in the country. “People want to know the character of those who had fled from the country and under what deal they have returned,” he added.

“It is responsibility of the Sharifs to answer these questions rather than snatching videotapes from journalists,” Shujaat said. The PML-Q chief said the journalist was also made hostage for many hours. “Sharif brothers are doing politics of lies and accusations, neglecting all ethical boundaries,” he said.
