LAHORE (December 02 2007): The alliance against sexual harassment organised an award ceremony for gender-friendly companies with the support of the European Union here on Saturday here at a local hotel.

The companies that were given the awards were the Johnson and Johnson Pakistan, BASF Pakistan (Private Limited), Agha Khan Rural Support Program (AKRSP), Attock Refinery Limited, Mc Donald’s Pakistan, Christian Study Centre, Pakistan, Sahil and Geo Television Network.

These companies were given awards for their gender-friendly policies. They have instituted an anti-sex harassment policy called “a code of conduct justice for gender justice”. They have other policies like flexible hours, day care and other policies that facilitate and encourage both men and women to work with dignity and respect.

The awards were presented by prominent figures representing different sections of society including Syed Noor, Tina Sani, Khalid Ahmad, Samina Anmad and Salima Hashmi.

They all shared their strong support and appreciation for management that ensure gender-friendly environment in their work places and assured that personally they would contribute to any efforts in this direction.

Organisation representative Fauzia Saeed said this year the ceremony was organised for the first time in Lahore and the alliance consisted of different partner organisations from all over Pakistan, working against sexual harassment.

She also said her organisation was working on awareness, legislation and recognition. “The alliance strongly believes that progressive employees will lead the way for future where organisations will be professional and productive,” she said.
