KUJ vows to continue struggle

KARACHI Feb 10.. The Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) announced on Wednesday that the hunger strike of journalists, which entered third day, would continue till the acceptance of their demands, which include an end to contract system and withdrawal of intra-court appeal filed by the Jang Group against the implementation of the Sixth Wage Award.

The action committee of the KUJ also demanded of the Jang Group of Publications to make public the details of the talks between the group and the government.

This was decided at a meeting attended by representatives of Karachi Union of journalists, Pakistan Federal Union of journalists and All Pakistan Newspaper Employees Confederation.

Expressing concern over the attitude of the Jang Group for not taking the PFUJ and APNEC into confidence and demanding of the Jang group to make public the details of talks, the meeting pointed out that they had supported the cause of the freedom of the press, and they had every right to know about the negotiations.

On Wednesday, Asif Ali Khan, Amin Yousuf and Fazil Jamali replaced the set of hunger strikers, Alimuddin Pathan, Aftab Syed, Abdul Qudoos and Arshad Husain.

The hunger strike camp was, visited by a number of people, including politicians, who expressed solidarity with the working journalists in their hour of trial.
