Jang Group proprietors get pre-arrest bail in six cases

KARACHI: Special Judge for Customs and Taxation Muhammad Sadique Leghari on Wednesday granted pre-arrest bail to the proprietors of Jang Group of Newspapers in six new cases of alleged wealth tax evasion.

Respondents Mir Shakil-ur Rahman and Mir Javed Rahman were granted bail on execution of personal bonds in the sum of Rs 0.5 million in each case.

There are a total of 11 cases, filed under Section 36 of the Wealth Tax Ordinance, pending in this court, It has been alleged by complainant Muhammad Mustafa Kamal, Deputy Commissioner Wealth Tax Circle-I, Karachi that after the death of Mir Khalil ur Rahman, respondents Mir Javed Rahman and Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman inherited his property, but during the period 1993-96 they concealed these properties in wealth tax returns.
