Karachi:Considering the frequent traffic jams daily due to under-construction roads and sewage accumulation on some major thoroughfares, it would be useful to have proper information regarding the route to follow.

Under such circumstances, an update regarding the traffic situation is essential especially when the route is not used on a daily basis. For this reason, one can tune in to FM 105 for hourly traffic updates or contact the traffic police helpline ‘Rahnuma 915’ to learn more about the traffic flow on any given route. The FM 105 Traffic Police Media Centre, inaugurated in April, works with the assistance of Rahnuma 915. The purpose of this media centre is to inform the public and update them regarding traffic situation in the city. It gives traffic updates on an hourly basis and in case of emergencies, they break the news immediately. Although it may not give the public a perfect picture, it can still help them learn more about the traffic routes that should be taken during rush hours.

Sources from the media centre said that they are serving public interest and the general response is also good. After the launch of this media centre, the number of callers at 915 has increased. This service provides one to three-minute traffic bulletins every hour that includes information about traffic jams, routes to be taken and traffic proposed diversions.

Before one heads out, he/she can dial 915 from his/her land line to get the latest traffic updates. Moreover, cellphone users can also contact them by dialling 915 or 021915. According to the officials, Rahnuma 915 remains active round the clock to help citizens learn about the traffic situation of any thoroughfare in the city. Commuters can also inform Rahnuma about accidents and also give suggestions regarding traffic issues and their solutions. The traffic police helpline also works as a complaint centre where public can register their complaints regarding traffic issues such as reckless driving, accidents and other violations. Complaints regarding the performance of traffic police can also be made on the same number.
