Karachi University (KU) becomes ISP

KARACHI- The University of Karachi Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr. Zafar Zaidi inaugurated the server room of the KU Internet Services, initiated to cater to the needs of teachers, researchers, and students.

According to a official of KU, the service will be on a trial basis for some time and will be formally launched after the test phase. The Varsity will be providing E. Mail and Internet facilities to all of its faculty members, researchers, scholars, students and staff.

He told that this facility is being provided under an agreement reached recently between Ministry of Science and Technology and the Association of Internet Service Providers. He observed that under the agreement, Varsity has already established communication link with the Paknet of PTCL.

He said, the Internet service was part of a greater project of Campus-wide network of the varsity and under this project all the departments of the Varsity, main library and other faculties would be linked together in an Intranet.

He disclosed that the VC of KU would formally launch the service on August 14, of the current year, under which the faculty members will be provided free of cost internet connection at their desks.
