KARACHI (January 18 2008): The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has seized over 3,500 pirated audio cassettes after resuming its campaign against the violators of Copyright Act, 1962.
Official sources told Business Recorder on Thursday that action had been taken on a tip-off, which revealed that ‘Saif Electronics’ situated at the Korangi National area, violating the copyright act for the last 18 months.
“FIA has arrested two offenders in the raid after receiving complete information about this illegal recording shop,” they added. The sealed shop was dealing in instalment home appliances aimed to conceal real trade from law-enforcement agencies, they said.
Officials said the FIA was also confiscated over 200 master CDs of English, Indian movies and audio melodies, and added that Indian songs were recorded in all seized pirated cassettes. They said the case had been registered as per Copyright Act, 1962 and further investigation is in progress.
Officials apprised that Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had approached Islamabad again for stopping piracy in Pakistan, which creates immense losses to parent industries.
FIA officials said the pirated material was being sold on a massive scales across the country and Pakistan is on top amongst all other countries in piracy,” they added. Therefore, the federal government has issued directives to FIA on which the campaign has been launched against the violators of intellectual property rights, they said.
