Judicial remand of Iqbal Kazmi extended

The Judicial Magistrate Karachi West, Zulfiqar Memon, on Saturday extended judicial remand of Iqbal Kazmi, a freelance journalist till July 7, 2007.

Kazmi filed a petition in the Sindh High Court (SHC) with regard to the May 12 carnage in Karachi and he was arrested by the Darakshan police on June 12 for his alleged involvement in bounced cheques cases.

Five cases were registered against him last year, on charges of fraud, threats and dishonoured cheques. Three cases were registered at the Darakshan police station while one at the Alfalah police station.

The investigation officer, Munir Chandio, on Saturday produced Kazmi before the judicial magistrate and prayed for extension of the judicial remand of the accused.

The judicial magistrate extended the judicial remand of Kazmi and sent him to jail till July 7, 2007. He also directed the investigation officer (IO) to submit charge sheet against him on the next date of production.
