Journalists to observe ‘Global Action Day’ today

ISLAMABAD, October 04 2005: Journalists and newspaper employees will hold protest marches throughout the world on Tuesday October 4 on the call of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) to observe “Global Action Day”.

This will be in solidarity with the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) as protest meetings and demonstrations will be held on the occasion, says a press release on Monday October 3.

IFJ president Christopher Warren in a statement said that a letter of protest would be delivered to Pakistan embassies worldwide, demanding justice for Pakistani journalists.

On the occasion, the IFJ has also sent advertisements to newspapers outside Pakistan besides radio messages in support of Pakistani newspaper employees.

The PFUJ has also published a poster depicting the plight of newspaper employees.

According to the PFUJ programme, protest rallies will be held in different parts of the country with the main rally to be held in Islamabad, where the PFUJ and All Pakistan Newspaper Employees Confederation members will march towards the Prime Minister’s House. Leaders of the Punjab Union of Journalists and the Khyber Union of Journalists will also participate in the rally.
