Journalists to boycott tomorrow’s PA session against terminations

Karachi: The journalist community will boycott the Sindh Assembly session of September 9 (Monday) against the forceful terminations of as many as 26 journalists from a local newspaper, President Karachi Union of Journalists announced this on Saturday.

Addressing a protest meeting outside the newspaper office, President KUJ GM Jamali said that they would record their resentment at the press gallery of Sindh Assembly as well as apprising Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon of the injustice meted out with the journalist community at the hands of the newspaper owners.

A large number of media people gathered at the newspaper office, shouting slogans against the newspaper management and demanding immediate reinstatement of the journalists.

Jamali said that a hunger strike camp would be set up outside the newspaper office till their demand of restoration of journalists was not met.

Speaking on the occasion, Secretary General Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists Amin Yousuf said that they would launch countrywide protests if these journalists were not restored at their respective jobs.

General Secretary KUJ Faheem Siddiqui condemned this anti-journalists act of the newspaper management and demanded immediate restoration of the newsmen.

President Karachi Press Club Imtiaz Khan Faran and sacked editor of the newspaper, Rafiq Ahmed Shaikh, also spoke on the occasion.
