Journalist manhandled

LARKANA- Journalists of Larkana have severely protested against manhandling of a senior journalist and bureau chief of a Karachi based Urdu daily, Abdul Ghani Shaikh, on Saturday.

Ghani, who is also Assistant District Scout Commissioner, Larkana, had arrived in the town in the early morning from Mansehra after attending a scout course, when a police constable intercepted him and searched his luggage. When the constable failed to find anything objectionable, he used abusive language and slapped him. Ghani has complained to the senior police officials in writing demanding action against the constable.

The journalists have expressed concern over this incident and demanded the local police officers to punish the policeman for his indecent behaviour against a law-abiding citizen. They said atrocities on journalists of Larkana by the police had been hampering their professional obligations. Several other incidents of maltreating of journalists by the police are on record, but authorities have failed to take remedial measures.
