Jail chief ordered to produce 10-year-old prisoner in court
HYDERABAD, June 19: Justice Amir Hani Muslim of the Hyderabad circuit bench of the Sindh High Court on Tuesday paid a surprise visit to juvenile and women’s prisons and directed superintendent of central jail to produce a 10-year-old juvenile offender, a co-accused in his father’s murder case, in the high court on Wednesday.
The judge accompanied by additional district and sessions’ judge-II, civil judge and judicial magistrate-IV and civil judge and judicial magistrate-VI first went to the juvenile prison where he came across Rano, son of Gango Kohli, who was remanded in judicial custody by the judicial magistrate of Kunri on June 18.
The judge ordered Jail Superintendent Muzaffar Alam Siddiqui to produce him in high court on Wednesday along with relevant papers. The juvenile was booked in a murder case lodged under sections 302, 34 PPC by Kunri police.
He then visited women’s prison where he met with Rano’s mother, who was named prime accused in the FIR lodged by her stepson for the murder of Gango Kohli.
The judge met with many under-trial juvenile prisoners and obtained their applications.
INQUIRY: The Hyderabad circuit bench of the Sindh High Court on Tuesday directed the sessions’ judge to hold an inquiry into the allegations levelled by a man who claimed to have been wrongfully detained by the SHO of Bulri Shah Karim police station, and submit a report.
Justice Amir Hani Muslim ordered that the SHO or any other police officer of the district should not arrest him without seeking permission from the court. The court passed the order on a constitutional petition filed by Noor Ahmed Samoon through Irfan Ahmed Qureshi advocate.
The petitions declared respondents police officers including regional police officer (RPO), DIG police (operations) Hyderabad, DPO and SP investigations of Tando Mohammad Khan.
Mr Samoon told the court that the SHO had wrongfully detained him from May 23 to June 5. He was released by in-charge of investigation at Bulri Shah Karim police station.
He said that the present SHO was still threatening him. The police officials disputed his statement and said that they had not detained him because he was not wanted to them in any case and had no criminal record.
The court directed the petitioner to approach Hyderabad sessions’ judge with a written complaint against the SHO of Bulri Shah Karim police station and asked the sessions’ judge to hold an inquiry into his allegations after examining witnesses and providing opportunity to police to place material against him in rebuttal.
The inquiry would be completed within four weeks and the sessions’ judge would submit a report to fix the responsibility.
The petitioner claimed that their rival Talib Abro with whom they had a running dispute over water had his brother Qasim and three friends arrested by Bulri Shah Karim police when they were returning from the Sobho Chandio village.
