Iran to promote media relations with Pakistan

ISLAMABAD- The current regional situation calls for further strengthening and enhancing cooperation between Pakistan and Iran, said Dr Ali Larijani, Chairman of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) soon after his arrival on September 30.

To a question about the need for greater cooperation in media, he said: “Both Iran and Pakistan enjoy very good relations both in cultural and historical terms but we want greater interaction in all fields like media. Both our countries can work together and cooperate in political and media relations.”

He said Iran is currently working on a television serial on Allama Iqbal and Pakistan can assist it in this venture.

Later, Dr Larijani held a meeting with PTV Managing-Director Mirza Yousaf Baig. The meeting concluded on an understanding to exchange television programmes and technical expertise with a view to further strengthening media relations between Iran and Pakistan.

The Iranian delegation chief also suggested involvement of Pakistan in the preparation of a documentary on the life of Dr Allama Iqbal. The PTV officials proposed that a script for the documentary be prepared with mutual consultation between IRIB and the PTV and a sub-committee was formed to finalise the theme, script and funding for the documentary.

During his stay in Pakistan, Dr Larijani will hold meetings with the information minister and visit the Faisal Mosque.
