Iftikhar flays brutal killing of Saleem

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain on Wednesday condemned the brutal killing of journalist Syed Saleem Shahzad and termed it against humanity.

Talking to media persons at the Peshawar Press Club after offering fateha for the departed soul of late Saleem Shahzad, the information minister said that he was greatly shocked to hear the news of killing of the journalist. He said journalists were sensitive segment of the society and extended selfless service to the whole society.

The minister said journalists were the part and parcel of the society and presently the whole society was on the target of terrorists. He, however, added that protection of life, property and honour of each and every citizen was the responsibility of the government.

He said, unfortunately, the country was in grip of global terrorism and conspiracy was being hatched to declare Pakistan a terrorist state. Iftikhar said that the Pakistan and its people were peace loving. He added that it was need of the hour to disclose the culprits of such incidents and give them exemplary punishment.

The minister proposed that there should be an emergency committee comprising the journalists of all the provinces for the protection and rights of journalists so that it could raise voice for it.

Syed Kamal Shah, chairman of the Aman Jirga, also condemned brutal murder of Saleem Shahzad and termed it a great tragedy. In a statement, he appealed to Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to take suo moto notice and pinpoint the killers of innocent journalists, ulema and politicians and award them exemplary punishment.
