JI files motion in Senate against journalist’s killing

Muhammad Anis

ISLAMABAD: The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) senators on Wednesday submitted an adjournment motion in the Senate Secretariat against killing of Syed Saleem Shahzad, a senior journalist.

The adjournment motion bearing signatures of senators Professor Khurshid Ahmed, Professor Muhammad Ibrahim and Dr Aafia Zia, while condemning the tragic incident, said such incidents also reflect lawlessness in the country. Observing that the journalist was subjected to brutal torture, which resulted into his death, the motion says most of the assessments were pointing fingers at intelligence agencies.

Professor Khurshid Ahmed, while expressing deep sense of shock over the killing of Syed Saleem Shahzad, also paid tributes to the commitment and courage of the deceased journalist. He said that the agencies, who are responsible for protecting the country and its citizens, have been involved in breaking laws of the land.
