Hudood law clause challenged

PESHAWAR, June 17 2006: A provision of the Zina Ordinance about fixing proof for the adultery and rape has been challenged in the Federal Shariat Court by a former president of the Peshawar Bar Association. The petition was filed by Musarrat Ullah Khan in the Shariat court registry here on June 16, praying the court to declare Section 8 of the Offence of Zina (Enforcement of Hudood) Ordinance, 1979, against the injunctions of Islam. The petition was filed through Abdullah Sam. He said that the ordinance was a man-made law.

The petitioner stated that nowhere in the Holy Quran the condition of four Witnesses for zina was given and the condition was only mentioned for dealing with vulgarity. Correspondent
