Honour killing accused remanded in police custody

LAHORE, Aug 08 2006: The Lahore High Court on Aug 07 dismissed a habeas corpus petition and allowed police to keep in their custody a 75-year-old man, Akhter Mohammad Khan, of Ferozewala who is accused of murdering his niece in the name of honour. Muhammad Asghar Khan had filed the petition for the recovery of his father from the alleged illegal custody of the Ferozewala police. The court deputed a bailiff, who recovered Khan from police custody and produced him before the court on Aug 07. He submitted that the police had not mentioned his arrest in the daily register.

Ferozewala SHO Rana Abbas said the accused was nominated in the murder case of his niece in the name of honour, but his arrest could not be mentioned as the police register was in the SP office at that time. The court, accepting the contention of the SHO, dismissed the petition and remanded the accused in police custody.
