Hayatullah’s murder widely condemned

KHAR (BAJAUR AGENCY), June 18 2006: Condemning the brutal slaying of Hyatullah Khan, correspondent of Daily The Nation in Mirali, North Waziristan Agency, journalist throughout Bajaur agency and political parties jointly staged a protest demonstration and walk here on Sunday and held responsible the government for the tragic death of young journalist. The journalist bodies which participated in the protest demonstration and walk were Tribal Union of journalist Bajaur Unit and Bajaur Press Club. The protest demonstration was also participated by Nazimeen, councilors, representatives from traders union and local leaders of different political parties.

Dozens of tribal journalists first gathered at Bajaur Press Club and took out a protest procession which passed through the main bazaar of Bajaur Agency and converted into a protest demonstration when reached the press club. Carrying banners and placards with slogans against the government for its failure to provide security to journalists and fabricating hurdles in the free media. The journalist and politicians also chanted slogans against the government and invisible hands behind the killing of the tribal journalist.

Those who addressed on the occasion were president of TUJ Bajaur Unit Haji Habibullah Khan, president of Bajaur Press Club Habibullah Khan and other office-bearers including Sahibzada Bahudin jan, Anwarullah Khan, Mian Saeed Rehman and others.

Addressing the journalists, the speakers held responsible the government for killing the tribal journalist and demanded to apprehend the assassin of young Hayatullah whose dead body was found on roadside on Friday last, at Khaisoor near Mirali town of North Waziristan. The speakers paid homage to hayatullah saying the killed journalist did not compromise on his professional responsibilities and tried his utmost efforts to report objectively in war between the militants and army in North Waziristan Agency. Hayatullah’s death has shocked the journalist community throughout the country, which has created a vacuum in the tribal journalists, which could not be filled.

They said that tribal journalists were not secured and the brutal killing of Hayatullah showed that government’s tall claims of providing security to media men proved hallow. “It is an attack on the freedom of media in which Hayatullah was martyred, it has shown the world that how much media is free in Pakistan’, the speakers remarked while commenting on the tall claims of the government being issued about the free and uncontrolled media. They demanded of the government to nab the killers of Hayatullah Khan and must award them exemplary punishment.

Mardan: The journalist of Mardan District took to streets to protest against the gruesome murder of tribal journalist and correspondent of daily The Nation Hayatullah in North Waziristan Agency (NWA). The protest demonstration was also attended by elected Nazims and councilors leaders of political parties including PPP-P,ANP, JI, JUI-F, PML-N, representatives of traders bodies, Clerks Association, District Bar Association, MNAS, NTAs besides journalists from Mardan, Takhibhai and Shergarh.

The demonstration led by Mardan Press Club President sadiq Bacha, General Secretary Bashir Adil, MPA Maulana Tajul Amin jabal, District Nazim Mardan Himayatullah Mayar, Tehsil Nazim Mardan Ihsan Bacha was started from Press Club. The protesters were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans demanding protection to journalists, arrest of the killers of Hayatullah Shaheed.

The protesting joumalists were chanting full throat slogans against gruesome killing of their colleague in NWA and demanding to unearth the hidden hand behind his assassination. On reaching Mardan Club, the procession was transformed into a public meeting. Addressing on the occasion, MNA Maula-na Shuiaul Mulk, MPA Maulana Tajul Amin Jabal President Press Club Sadique Bacha, General Secretary Bashir Adil, PPP-P leaders Haji Khanzada Khan, Khan Ghawas Advocate, ANP leader Imran, JI leader Saeed Akhtar Advocate PML-N leader Inayat Bacha Advocate, President Dist Abdul Hameed Khan, journalists Musarrat Aasi, Hayatullah Akhtar and Bakhatullah Jan Hasrat condemned the murder of Hayatullah Wazir and demanded thorough probe to unearth the killer of the slain journalist who laid his life to save the sanctity of pen.

They also came very hard on Musharraf Government leged that he was toeing interests of US and held him responsible for the unrest in the tribal areas. They demanded of the Chief Justice of Supreme Court to take notice of this gruesome murder and order judicial inquiry into it.
