Girl demands protection
DADU: A girl student of BSc appeared in the court of judicial magistrate in Sehwan on April 3, after filing an application to demand protection. Rabia Mallah, 20, a student of the Government Girls Degree college, Dadu, apprehended that she could be killed on the pretext of Karo-kari because she had refused to marry an aged person as desired by her uncle.
In her written statement, she stated that her father Haji Ilyas Mallah had divorced her mother Malkan in October 2, 2003 and left for Saudi Arabia. She said that later her mother had married Mustafa Shaikh and she was living with her uncle Mohammad Hashim and stepfather.
She said that her uncle, after receiving a handsome amount from an aged man, was forcing her to marry the man. She added that she wanted to study further and was not willing to marry the man.
She apprehended that her stepfather and uncle might kill her on the pretext of adultery and appealed to the court to provide her protection. The judicial magistrate directed the administration of Dadu to provide her protection. Later talking to journalists, Ms Mallah appealed to the human rights organizations to provide her protection.
NOTICES ISSUED: The district and sessions judge and Human Rights Board director has issued notices to 11 police officials of Mehar to appear in the court on April 10 in a case of arrest and torture of a labourer at the police station and his release after giving bribe.
Ali Hassan, resident of Hori, Khairpur Nathan Shah taluka, on Saturday filed an application in the court, stating that ASI Akram Janwari with 10 other police officials detained him two days back when he was going to Mehar after receiving Rs3,800 from a trader.
He said that the police officials snatched the amount and tortured him at the police station for two days. He added that later, his mother paid Rs2,000 to the ASI who released him on April 2.
DETENTION: The judge also issued notices to the in-charge of Thariri Jado Shaheed police post and two police officials to appear in the court on April 9 with a detained person and concerned record.
THREATS: The judge also summoned a police constable and his wife on the charge of issuing threats to headmistress of Government Girls Primary School, Mureed Babbur.
He took the action on an application filed by the medical officer of Kakar Health Centre Abdul Jabbar Babar against constable of the Pat Gul Mohammad police station Pir Bux and his wife Chagi who is a school teacher.
The applicant complained that his sister Hooran Babbur, who was the headmistress, was receiving threats of transfer from the police constable and his wife. He further said that the police constable often visited the school in uniform and created harassment among the students. He alleged that the policeman wanted to use the school building as Otaq (guest house.)
