Geo’s silent protest

The staff members of Geo TV Network staged a ‘silent protest’ against the ban on the electronic media on the premises of the Karachi Press Club (KPC) on Monday. They were carrying placards and banners with slogans like “Geo Aur Jeene Do” emblazoned across them and wore black armbands condemning the draconian laws that had deprived people of information.

Speaking on the occassion, Secretary of Association of TV Journalists, Faisal Aziz, said that the Karachi Union of Journalists (PFUJ), under the guidance of PFUJ, had chalked out an elaborate programme regarding the protest against the Pemra ordinance and its amendments. He said that on Monday a unit meeting in the offices of newspapers and channels were held, while on Tuesday a protest meeting will be held. On Wednesday, he said, journalists would be staging a hunger strike.

He appealed to all the Geo staff to participate in the programme announced by the KUJ.
