Four new TV channels to help promote education

RAWALPINDI- Four new TV channels are being established for the promotion of education in the country, Science and Technology Minister In-charge Dr Atta-ur-Rehman said.

Addressing a seminar on “World-class machining and evaluation”, here on July 16th, 2003, he said, these channels would help in promoting education, which was imperative for the progress and development of the nation.

He said two TV channels would start functioning in November this year, while two others would be made functional next year.

He said Pakistan lags behind in the field of information technology, adding that concerted efforts were required to develop the sector.

Dr Atta said quality laboratory was vital for IT development, adding that the country required high-class education in engineering and technology.

He said Pakistan’s export base is 80.4 percent, while the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was minimal that called for further work and endeavours in this regard.

He said education would help in attaining targets and objective since it offered solutions to country’s problems.

He said primary education should be made compulsory, adding that Australia has 95 percent literacy rate.

About IT progress during the last two years, he said, 1,600 cities and towns have been provided Internet service across the country.
