Foreign media, agencies throng Capital

ISLAMABAD- The federal capital has become the centre of world attention with all major media operators, intelligence sleuths and diplomats setting their bases in local hotels.

Islamabad presents a microcosmic view of a global village but as a Chinese curse says, “May you live interesting times” seems to be true in more than one ways.

According to a list of guests in town, British diplomats, US State Department officials and intelligence officials of some neighbouring countries were staying in the two major hotels.

As many as 33 US citizens, 19 from Japan, 63 from United Kingdom, seven from Canada and France, 10 from China and two from Italy are staying in the hotels.

The guest list of another hotel showed that 162 persons were booked in the hotel, of which 50 were journalists.

Major media outlets whose journalists are in town include:

Financial Times, CBS News, TV Asahi, ZDF German TV, RAI TV Italy, NBC, Australian Broadcasting, Los Angeles Times, APTN, The Boston Globe, Irish Times, Nippon TV, Wall Street journal, Kyodo News, Reuters, Associated Press International, Agency France Presse, The Economist, Cable News Network, British Television, British Broadcasting Corporation, ABC News, Daily Mail, ARD German TV, Express Magazine, Sunday Times, Washington Post, The Globe, The Mail, The Baltimore Sun, National Public Radio USA, The Mirror Newspaper, ITN Asia Bureau, New York Times, Japan TV.

The foreign countries whose citizens were booked in one of the hotels include: US State Department officials Michael Ho, Thomas Hundley, Rodney L. Norland, Paul Senenkd (US embassy), Daniel Redabaug (US embassy), Patrick led Ryan (US embassy), Kevin Monahan (Travel Corporation) Kenneth E.

Miller (US embassy) Mr Machner (US embassy), James Nuttall (US embassy), Giselle Zimmerman (USAID), Ms Susan Tina, Gary Knight, Hal N Wilson (US embassy), John Dalton, Hose Mendosa (US embassy).

United Kingdom: Nigel Moughton. DBM Matthews, Fauzia Younas, Malcolm Chadderton, Andy Cole, Andy Clarke (3 rooms booked on Travel by appointment basis under this name), Mark Jeremy Ludlow (Travel by appointment), Andy Stevenson (Travel by appointment), Michael Seale, Ms Kimberly G Dozier, Julian Rake, Mel Dickson, Ms Vanessa Jane Lord, Simon D Hiten, Ms Angela, Williams, David L. Cooke.

Nationals of Greece, Italy, Germany, Spain, Australia, Netherlands, Korea, China, Canada, Bangladesh. Lebanon, France, Sri Lanka, Denmark, Malaysia, Ireland, Egypt, Norway, Sweden, Thailand, Philippines, Singapore were found to be booked in one of the, hotels.

Reservations in the name of White House Band and in the name of officials of intelligence agencies of some countries have also been made.
