FM-93 opens in Hunza

ISLAMABAD: Gilgit Baltistan Chief Minister Syed Mehdi Shah on Tuesday inaugurated the FM-93 radio station, set up by the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC), at Baltit in Hunza to pass on accurate information to local people about the latest situation posed by the Attabad Lake.

The FM-93, located at the highest altitude of over nine thousand feet, has been set up in record time of one week to provide basic information to the residents especially those living downstream. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Mehdi lauded the role of the media, particularly the PBC, during the crisis created by the lake. He said that it was credit needs to be given to the PPP government that has reached out to the affected people and taken steps to provide relief to them as well as making the provision of accurate information possible by setting up this radio service.

The chief minister said that steps have been taken to cope with the situation in the red zone areas in case of any eventuality. He thanked Federal Minister for Information Qamar Zaman Kaira and PBC Director General Murtaza Solangi for taking personal interest in setting up the FM radio station.
