Fibre optic link with Oman launched

ISLAMABAD, Aug 01 2006: Omantel, Oman,s leading telecommunications service provider, and Pakistan-based telecom giant, have formalized a submarine fibre optic cable link between the two countries. According to the Gul News, the cable links allow for the exchange of telecommunications traffic between Pakistan and Oman on the one hand and the rest of the world on the other.

“This cable will enable Pakistan in turn to tap into the Falcon and Flag systems by way of local connections provided by Oamntel,” he added. TWA venture is one of the success of the Falcon project, as it will enable Omantel to sell some large broadband capacity to the Pakistani company. It will also increase Omantel’s foreign investments and expand the subscriber base to include regional and international countries, companies and institutions.- APP
